By train::

You can get to the Max-Planck-Institute directly by taking the S-Bahn line S1, running every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night and at the weekends. Get off the train at “Dortmund Universität”. If you are starting from Dortmund Hbf, please take the S1 going to Duesseldorf Hbf. If you are coming from Duesseldorf, Duisburg, Essen or Bochum, please take the S1 going to Dortmund Hbf.

You can look up train schedules at www.bahn.de

From Dortmund city, you can either take the bus, the subway or the tram to the Max-Planck Institute. Take the subway lines U41, U45, U47 or U49 to “Stadtgarten”. Here, you will need to change trains and take the U42 to “An der Palmweide”. From here, you can either take bus line 468 [to “Meitnerweg”] or 447 [to “Dortmund Universität S”].

You can get a personalized public transport schedule at  www.vrr.de
